APA style guide: Website

Citing a website

When citing multiple pages from the same website in APA style:

Create a separate reference entry for each web page you use. Use the specific URL and publication date for each page referenced. In the reference list, list each page as its own citation.

For the date, cite the most specific date you can find on the page (preferably the publication date or "last updated/last modified" date). If no date is listed, then indicate that with: n.d. The publisher/sponsoring organization may be the same as the name of the website. If the url of the specific page you used is too long, shorten it to end at .com, .org etc.
Basic model for citing a web page
In-text (Author, Year) and if no date: (Author, n.d.)
References Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of web page. Website Name. URL

A web page with an author
In-text (Price, 2018)
References Price, D. (2018, March 23). Laziness does not exist. Medium. https://humanparts.medium.com/laziness-does-not-exist-3af27e312d01

A web page with no author
In-text (APA, 2020)
References American Psychological Association. (2020). Pandemic stress. https://www.apa.org/news/pandemic-stress

A web page with no author or date
In-text (“Global Warming,” n.d.)
References Global warming facts. (n.d.). National Geographic. Retrieved January 18, 2025, from https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/global-warming-overview

An entire website
In-text Mention the name of the website in the text and include the URL in parentheses.
References

APA does not require a reference list entry for an entire website. If your instructor requires all sources cited, however, follow: Name of Organization or Website. (Year, Month Day). Site Name. URL

Use (n.d.) if no date is available. Do not include a period after the URL.
