Behavioral expectations

The library provides a space for all students to study, conduct research, and use the available computers for academic purposes. In order for it to fulfill this purpose, patrons of the library must adhere to a code of conduct that allows for an orderly and respectful environment. These behavioral guidelines are based on the principle of respecting the right of all students and faculty to an appropriate place to pursuevarious intellectual pursuits. Use of the library is contingent upon an understanding and agreement with these guidelines.

  1. No food or drinks are permitted in the library at any time.
  2. Students should be respectful at all times of the right of others to a quiet study space. That means that personal conversations are kept to a minimum and conducted at a volume that will not be heard by any other library patrons. Collaborative work requiring conversation should be conducted in the areas next to the nonfiction collection or outside the computer labs; the noise level should not be distracting to other students. The Ballroom and Davis Conference Room are reserved for students needing a quiet study space. Non-academic conversations and social gatherings should be conducted in the Student Center or other public gathering spaces. These guidelines also apply to students in the the public computer areas.
  3. Patrons must respect the seating capacity of the library so that the environment remains orderly and conducive to study.
  4. Patrons should clean up their work areas before leaving the library, leaving it in the same condition it was when they arrived.

Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in a loss of library use privileges.
